YSES and WiSPiT: direct imaging surveys for young gas giant exoplanets

The Young Suns Exoplanet Survey (YSES) has found three young (~20 Myr) self luminous gas giants around two solar type stars in Sco-Cen at relatively large (>110 au) projected separations, and the survey of 72 stars is only 50% complete. Understanding how these exoplanets came to be so far from their parent star is a challenge – is this population of wide separation planets a strong function of their environment, or their age?

We have started the Wide Separation Planets in Time (WiSPiT) survey using the same snapshot technique used in YSES, and we expect to constrain the exoplanet population in younger stellar associations to see if these wide separation exoplanets are present at earlier times.
